Rīga Stradiņš University was founded in September 1, 1950. RSU has been recognized as the university with the best reputation in Latvia for four years in a row, gaining the highest rating among the 10 largest Latvian universities according to a study conducted by market research company Kantar TNS in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. 

Rīga Stradiņš University is a state-funded university which offers various study programmes and ensures the realization of scientific projects, providing training of experts in health care and social sciences who work in Latvia and across the world. 

Riga Stradiņš University’s nine faculties provide undergraduate as well as postgraduate level studies in various programmes. High school students as well as doctors of science have the opportunity to study at RSU and enhance their education, and make a contribution to the creation of knowledge and new technologies

The Medical degree offered at RSU (MD – Doctor of Medicine) is a globally recognized medical course which spans for 6 years covering comprehensive clinical experience. The first 3 years cover the basic sciences. Commencing from their third academic year of study, Faculty of Medicine students have the opportunity to gain deeper knowledge of Paediatrics. Placement in clinical care, internal diseases, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology are also included in the teaching process where theoretical knowledge will be supplemented by practical skills.

The Faculty of Medicine offers professional education, and the opportunity to study medicine under the guidance of professors from Latvian universities and hospitals, as well as from abroad.
