Founded in 1946. The campus occupies 200 hectares, and the total building area comprises 830,000 m² (8,934,046 sq ft). The libraries consist of 2,000,000 volumes.

Since 2012, CTGU has recruited over 24,000 full-time undergraduates, 2,336 postgraduate and 1,048 foreign students. It institutes a group of key subjects (key laboratories) at the provincial and state level, and doctoral and master programs.

The University is Accredited and Approved By MCI (Medical Council of India), PMDC, USMLE, HPCSA, SCHS etc and WHO (World Health Organization).The University Ranking is improving year by year and it occupies the 239th position in the country based on the 4ICU country ranking. Due to its impressive ranking, it becomes the first preference of most foreign students. It also ranked among the top medical universities in the world. 

The institute started its first undergraduate batch in 1978 and was the first batch of bachelor’s degree-granting units in the country. It starts providing master’s degree education in 1996 and started to prepare doctoral students in 1998.
